Play On! NDS Rome, Georgia Opened March 2026

From Trailhead Investment to Public Proof

A playground can turn a trail stop into a family destination.

Mount Berry Trailhead Park pairs active play with one of Rome’s most scenic greenway entrances, creating a place where children can play while families pause, reconnect, and keep moving.

AdventHealth Redmond, the City of Rome, and TRED collaborated on a compact park designed around whole-person wellness. The play environment carries Play On! National Demonstration Site recognition, translating research into six essential movement experiences: swinging, sliding, climbing, brachiating, spinning, and balancing.

  • Give children a reason to move while caregivers recharge.
  • Add a family-friendly gateway to Rome’s riverfront trail network.
  • Use outcomes reporting to measure reach, activity, and community value.

Why Local Context Matters

Rome built play into a landscape already made for movement.

The Mount Berry Trail follows the Oostanaula River past rolling hills, pasture, a pond, and wildlife. The new park gives families a playful reason to begin, end, or extend a greenway visit.

The trailhead sits at 130 Coligni Way, just behind the post office and minutes from downtown Rome. Its location connects a neighborhood-scale play space to a larger regional system for walking, running, biking, transportation, and recreation.

Community Example

Mount Berry Trailhead Park brings whole-person wellness to the greenway.

Bright blue and green play features, swings, climbers, slides, overhead activities, and resilient surfacing create a compact destination that feels connected to the woods and trail around it.

The result is intentionally multigenerational: children get a rich movement experience, caregivers gain a comfortable place to pause, and trail users discover another reason to make the greenway part of their routine.

Destination Reach

Rome is the home base, but the park reaches beyond the city.

Most visitors began their trip within Rome, while nearly one in five came from Silver Creek, elsewhere in Georgia, or out of state.

Health and Economic Value

Active play is already creating measurable health value.

The Mount Berry experience combines low-to-moderate intensity play with moderate-intensity walking and jogging, turning one destination into a small ecosystem of movement.

The NDS health-cost model estimates savings from avoided disease treatment and improved worker productivity. For Mount Berry, the model projects an average of $2,055 in combined physical and mental health savings each month.

Data That Tells Your Story

Every National Demonstration Site receives reports designed for advocacy.

The reports connect design decisions, local context, visitor behavior, and health value so communities can show what happens after the ribbon is cut.
